Hey y'all just finished my new outer space unit last week! Here's a small preview of what's in the unit, but I must say, it's my biggest and best one yet. It's a whopping 118 pages with 7 math and 7 literacy centers, a pocket chart story, and a cute little outer space word search. Hope you check it out! Follow my store while your there :)
This week we learned all about America and some important symbols in our country. We focused on a few of the more important presidents from the past and we also learned some things about the current one. The first big deal for me was the Pledge of Allegiance. We say this every morning in our school, and sometimes the words don't come out quite right haha...they are just 5 years old. We painted a flag and filled in all of the missing sight words in the pledge. After reading it just a time or two, you're able to actually understand what they say in the mornings. We read about George Washington and Abe Lincoln. The kids really enjoyed learning about them mainly because "George wears a wig," and "I can't believe Abe Lincoln loved to read!" We also did a measuring activity with Abe since we just started our measurement unit in math. We ended the week learning about our current president. I didn't manage to get any center pictures this week, but they all came from my Presidents and Patriotism Unitin my tpt store. Take a look at all our fun!!!
Hey y'all! I just spent a few hours coming up with a few...for real like 4...center ideas for my Dr. Seuss unit that I am planning for next week. I was running a little short on centers, so I came up with this little Dr. Seuss supplement. Check it out at my tpt store.
This week we spent the majority of our time learning what a career is, and what kind of careers make our neighborhood work in anticipation for our career day on Friday. We did have a few interruptions during the week with Valentine's Day on Tuesday, and going to see JACK HARTMANN on Wednesday!!!!...but we still managed to cover a lot of ground with careers. This is such a fun unit to do with your kids! If you don't normally plan one you should definitely consider it. I've got the perfect unit for you in my TPT store! Go check it out! First take a look at just a few pics from our Jack experience and then you'll see all of the fun we had learning about careers this week.

So I am a little behind on the blog posts, but I'm catching up now so it;s all good. So the week before actual Valentine's Day, Mrs. Holcomb's class spent all week learning about Valentine's Day and what the day is really all about. We learned how to cut a heart out of a folded piece of paper, We painted our very own valentines on our brand new easel and decorated our door, and we measured just hoooooowwww much we love someone.
Then on the real day we didn't completely throw out the lesson plans for community helpers, but we did a few extra special valentine activities. Of course we did a valentine word search to build up some V-day vocab, we had our first addition experience with Hershey kisses, we graphed our favorite candy convo heart flavor and out favorite saying, and of course we swapped Valentine's with everyone! Take a look at all the fun we had learning about such a fun day!
